Sorry, but I have gone so cross-eyed from staring at this thing for 10 months that I can't come up with a more creative title.
Anyway, yes, I said 10 months. It started out as just a simple cute sketch that I did while at work ( yes, I'm a bad manager ) and around that time, I was still hung up on trying to do a digital background for a commission I am still working on. I figured this would be as good a time as any to get some background practice so I worked on it little by little inbetween my day job and commission/trade work over a period of 10 months. The environment might feel a little off because I originally drew the characters with no plan in mind for a background, so I just kinda worked one in there around them. There were originally a lot more elements in it, like I had a group of marathon bicyclists in the background and some additional trees with a bench, but it was all starting to look a little congested so I removed them towards the end.
Also, I just winged the perspective and then eventually dropped in some perspective rulers when working on the windows and buildings. By that time I was so far along I didn't want to go back and readjust the rest of the environment. Next time I'll do start to finish with the perspective grids.
Anyway, for the most part it was fun, and other times not so fun. I tried to challenge myself to use only brushes I personally made or else came default with Photoshop ( towards the end though I got lazy and just downloaded some cloud brushes, lol ). Over that long a period of time for one pic, my approach and method of doing some things changed radically. I'll need to keep going forward though and exploring my options in hopes that maaaayybbbbeee someday, I'll feel totally comfortable when people commission digital art from me as opposed to traditional.
